EDUCATION:
Passing on
the Torch
of Truth
and
Light

For 800 years, the Dominican Order has located itself at the heart of higher education.  It is this inherited integration of the arts, humanities and sciences, with the deepest expression of the contemplative and creative spirit of men and women, which forms the basis of the educational philosophy of Caldwell College.
Caldwell College - dedicated to the pursuit of truth, formed in the Dominican Tradition and incorporated on August 10, 1939 - is a Catholic, co-educational, four-year liberal arts institution.   Committed to intellectual discipline leading to excellence, individual attention, and the ethical values of the Judaeo-Christian academic tradition, this academic community of administration faculty, students and staff celebrates its origins in Catholic liturgical prayer and convocations, a campus-wide commitment to religious belief, and by witness to the College motto: “Sapientia et Scientia” – “Wisdom and Knowledge.”  www.caldwell.edu

Founded in 1920, Lacordaire Academy in Upper Montclair, is an independent Catholic college preparatory school educating boys and girls in grades pre-K through 8 and young women in grades 9-12.

Lacordaire Academy’s name was chosen to reflect the values and ministry of Pere Henri Lacordaire, a fearless Dominican priest who brought the good news of Christ to post-revolutionary Paris. The Academy, sponsored by the Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell who minister alongside a highly qualified faculty of lay teachers, has a long-standing tradition of providing a challenging curriculum in a nurturing supportive environment.  The gift of Dominican education and the value of outreach to others is embraced and lived out by Lacordaire’s students.  Senior sisters and elderly residents at St. Catherine in Caldwell offer a warm welcome to the young women from Lacordaire who offer smiles and service as activity aides.  www.lacordaire.net

By establishing Link Community School in 1969, the Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell, New Jersey, responded to the critical educational needs of a broken city after the Newark riots and the resulting devastation of the Central Ward community This non-denominational independent middle school was established to help rebuild the community by providing an exceptional educational opportunity for young people left in poverty.
The small class settings, combined with opportunities for creative expression, transform potential dropouts into community leaders. Link’s administration and teachers promote academic excellence by responding to individual learning needs and styles.  The Link Community School curriculum provides each child with the freedom to develop intellectually and emotionally in a safe, structured learning community. Link has grown into a thriving scholarship-based independent school serving up to 128 seventh- and eighth-grade students.  www.linkschool.org
