Dominican Sisters of Caldwell, New Jersey:
We Hold Three Corporate Stances

Non-Violence

The Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell, NJ pledge to support the Violence-Free Zone adopted by the LCWR and supported by our Chapter in 1995.

Therefore, we will strive to insure that:

  • There will be no violence against any person – young or old; woman, man or child; no abuse, physical or verbal, based on race, creed, age, gender, or sexual orientation.

  • We will speak out against the use and glorification of violence in the media and in all areas of our culture
    .

  • We will try to protect victims of violence, and commit ourselves to non-violent resolution of conflict.

  • We will be voices for peace among nations, voices for reform of any government, any organization or institution whose practices do violence either to groups or to individuals.

  • We will work to eradicate violence against the earth, to instill respect and love for our planet, for its bounteous resources, and for all its creatures.

  • We commit ourselves to implement this pledge to the best of our ability in our personal lives, our homes, our places of ministry and in our institutions as we work toward a more peaceful, just, and sustainable world.

Supported by Chapter in 1995
Affirmed by Congregation December 6, 1997

Abolition of the Death Penalty

The Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell, NJ are committed to support the abolition of the death penalty.

We join with Pope John Paul II and the U.S. Bishops, and many other religious groups in calling for an end to this kind of punishment for violent crimes.

At the same time, we reach out in compassion to victims of violence and their families.

We are mindful also of the other members of the community suffering from the offenders’ crimes.

Affirmed at Assembly in July, 2002

Genetically Engineered Foods and Labeling of Foods

We, the Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell, support a moratorium on the planting of GE (genetically engineered) crops pending environmental and human safety studies until such time as the technology is proven safe.

All foods containing GE ingredients should be labeled.

Affirmed at Chapter in March, 2005
