Sister Patricia Daly, OP is the recipient of the
2009 Individual Achievement Award. Sister Pat was honored
at the BENNY Reception and Awards at the 2009 BEN Conference
(Business Ethics Network) on October 13 in Berkeley, CA and
Washington, D.C.
(The sites were teleconference-connected for much of the program,
including the Awards.)
Sister Pat has worked in corporate responsibility
and socially responsible investing for over 25 years, negotiating
with companies on issues of human rights, labor, ecological
concerns, militarism, equality, health and tobacco, and
international debt and capital flows.
Sister Pat is a Dominican Sister of Caldwell, New
Jersey and is Executive Director of the
Tri-State Coalition for Responsible Investment,
an organization of 40 Roman Catholic dioceses and congregations in
the NY metropolitan area. Pat represents these institutional
investors to the national
Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility,
an association of hundreds of Roman Catholic, Protestant and Jewish
organizations holding billions in investments. Pat's work has been
critical in forcing General Electric to pay for a clean-up of the
Hudson River, getting Ford and GM to exert pressure on their
suppliers to improve working conditions, and in moving the agenda of
global warming into the priorities of corporate America. Pat has
worked to encourage investors to participate in the work of their
companies and is a mentor in effective strategies for systemic
change.
