COME AND SEE!

“My eyes were opened to the type of Religious Women you are.”
“I am grateful; the weekend was very reflective and informative.”
“I am answering God’s call to search.”

These statements and others like them were shared at our Northeast Dominican Six Come and See! Weekend. Our invitation to experience Dominican Life and Mission was accepted by three women who are discerning God’s call in their lives. These women whose ages ranged from 33 through 46 traveled from Philadelphia, Kingston and Spring Valley, New York to join us in prayer, dialogue and to celebrate our uniqueness.

During the weekend, the women entered fully into prayer, study and community life. Through our large group conversations as well as our individual conversations our guests learned of the variety of ways that we, the Northeast Six Dominicans, live out our Dominican charism. As they listened, they questioned our methods of preaching and the different ministries in which we are involved. They, too, shared how they are responding to Jesus’ call to mission and the signs of our times.

The weekend’s schedule included participation in Dominican morning, evening and night prayer (from our Dominican Praise prayer book), Eucharistic celebrations, presentations, reflection and discussion on the vows, as well as, an opportunity for Lectio Divina and preaching. There was a mutual sharing of one’s faith and vocation stories. Their faith, openness and commitment to working for justice were most encouraging.

The experience was an energizing one for all who participated. In their shared evaluation at its conclusion, the women expressed gratitude for the welcome they received and for the opportunity to learn who we are. They noted in particular our hospitality, concern and care for one another, and energy for mission.

Our experience cannot be left without expressing our gratitude to our Sisters of St. Paul’s Convent who opened their doors and their home to us. Thank you for providing on-going impressions to those who came and saw!

We had advertised this weekend widely, yet each of these women came as the result of a personal invitation from a Dominican sister. Once again we were reminded of the importance of personal contact and invitation in spreading our Dominican Life and Mission. Please pray for these women as they continue their discernment and continue to invite others to Come and See!
