The Universe and Creation Committee was established in 1995 following the Chapter approval of our Vision Statement:
We will commit ourselves to deepen our studying, living and teaching the mysteries of the universe and the sacredness of all creation.
We resist the ongoing devastation of our planet
by a contemplative scrutiny of our use/abuse of Earth’s gifts.
The Committee works to raise consciousness about the urgency of issues relating to the planet and to promote a deepening understanding of the sacredness of all creation. In particular, the Committee provides materials to the study group and alerts the Congregation to major issues affecting the planet.
The Universe and Creation Study Group, a wider gathering of sisters and others, has been meeting since 1995 to study and discuss the issues related to our Vision Statement and to reflect on the spiritual context for addressing these issues. Field trips add to our understanding of New Jersey’s bioregions and wildlife.
We are planning to use a set of educational videos that correspond to the Journey of the Universe by Mary Evelyn Tucker and Brian Swimme. Our first meeting is scheduled for September 29, 2012 at Our Lady of the Lake Convent, Verona. You are welcome to join us. Contact Sr. Jeanne Goyette at jgoyetteop@yahoo.com.
Genesis Farm and its director still evolvingthe next step is to ask: 'What is it that Earth is asking us to do?'
After 13.7 billion years, the universe continues to evolve in its limitlessly expansive creativity, constantly birthing new stars.
After71 years, Dominican Sr. Miriam Therese MacGills is evolving as well, into a brand new mode of personal creativity and ministry. She will move out of her position as founding director of Genesis farm in May 2013 to do teaching, writing and gardening.

FIRST PILLAR - PRAYER
Reflection
As the flower turns to the sun, so the soul turns to God.
William Temple
When I see that first, minuscule, curled, pale green wisp of a sprout poking up between a couple of grains of vermiculite, I hear God speaking.
June Santon, "Miracle in a Dixie Cup," Greenprints #44
What I know of the Divine
I learnt in the woods and the fields.
I have no other masters
other than the beeches and the oaks.
St. Bernard
Prayer
Creator Spirit, Thank you for the beauty of creation, the diversity of colors, shapes, fragrances, and intricacies of our blossoming Earth, and the newness of life that springs forth at this time of year. Awaken my whole being to the miracle of life. Help me to listen to you as I contemplate your extravagant love and generosity in life-giving planet, which we call home.
Action
1. Spend some time outdoors or, if this is impossible, gaze at some aspect of the natural world. Listen to God speaking to you.
2. Reflect on how your ideas regarding the nature of God have been awakened and shaped by your experience of the natural world. Share these ideas with another person.
3. Pray for the wisdom and courage to take the necessary steps to preserve and foster the natural world and resist its ongoing devastation.
