Immigration / Migration

The efforts of the Commission on Global Issues combine with a variety of organizations to call for the United States to live up to its tradition of fairness and generosity toward refugees and migrants, and uphold international standards for the treatment of those seeking refuge in this country. Improvements in United States law and policy are needed to protect the rights of asylum seekers, forcibly displaced people, vulnerable migrants, and detained immigrants in the United States (see our corporate stance on immigration/migration).

We strive to be active in the following ways:

• To continue to work with the Dominican Sisters in Committed Collaboration (OPSCC) to ensure justice for all;
• To work with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark as they provide reception and placement of refugees;
• To assist First Friends of New Jersey and New York in raising awareness to assist detainees and asylum seekers who are housed in detention centers;

• To defend the rights of immigrants by challenging policies that are unjust and un-American and work with the Interfaith Immigration Coalition.
